The overwhelming response from the Cycling Weekly team when I put it out for ideas was books. For some reason, as cyclists, we can't just ride bikes; we have to live and breathe cycling in every aspect of our lives. 1. 1923: The mystery of lot 212 and a Tour De France obsession - While Ned is very much a personality British readers will be aware of and fond of, you don't need to understand British culture to become immersed in this book. Trace Ned's footsteps through the COVID lockdowns as he uncovers not just cycling history but how intertwined our sport is with history itself.
2. A Ride Across America: Small Towns, Big Issues and One Epic Adventure - Simon's first book, Riding Out, was a joy to read, and his latest offering should interest both sides of the pond - America from a British perspective. With a bit of cycling in the middle, I am sure.
3. Coffee First, Then the World: One Woman's Record-Breaking Pedal Around the Planet - While Jenny's record was broken last year by Lael Wilcox, she tells the story of her journey with such humour, honesty, and humility that it is still very much worth reading.
4. Epic Bike Rides of the World - I am a big fan of Lonely Planets coffee table books. While they aren't exceptionally detailed, they do get the creative juices flowing for route planning and adventures.
5. Potholes and Pavements: A Bumpy Ride on Britain’s National Cycle Network - I am yet to get myself a copy of this one, but it comes recommended by Senior News Writer Tom. However, broken cycling is in the UK; we love our wiggly NCN map, and I am sure it is not all doom and gloom.

In our testing, we thought the Giro Eclipse Spherical ticked all the boxes when it came to performance and safety. Without proper wind tunnel testing we couldn't verify the aero capabilities, however, our tester did achieve his fastest-ever downhill speed and upped his average overall speed while wearing it.

The Eclipse Spherical is also one of the most stylish-looking helmets around and one of the most advanced in terms of safety. The Giro features, like most of the market-leading helmets, the MIPS safety system – the protection system designed to address rotational motion for an added measure of protection in certain impacts. This little lock really won me over. Given its low price, it has a near-flawless function; the lock barrel action is smooth, and it feels solid. It also includes little details you would never expect from a bike lock that’s so cheap. The frame mount included in the cost is a rarity now, especially amongst the higher-security bike locks. The inclusion of a little LED in the key to help see the lock in the dark is a neat touch, which OnGuard didn’t need to do and, in theory, could have made this bargain lock even cheaper. It is a great example of why you don't always need the most expensive item; looking closely at the specifications of a product and reading reviews can uncover some gems.

We loved the DMT KR-SL shoes in our review, and awarded this super stylish shoe an impressive 4 out of 5 stars. Whether the chat has been about the ever-growing volume used within the pro-peloton or Visma's lease-a-bike's controversial inflation system, the subject of tyres has sparked a lot of conversations. My colleague Joe predicts there's even more to come, saying this week that, road tyres have a long way to go, and this year's Paris-Roubaix, which Mathieu van der Poel won, is just the start.

Rook, our North American Editor, spent most of 2024 on this tyre and had this to say about it in her first ride review, with them eventually making her Gear of the Year 2024:

One of the best rear lights on the market is the Magicshine SEEMEE 300, and as a professional deals hunter, I've highlighted many good deals on those. However, my personal favourite rear light that has a few extra tricks up its sleeve and provides a load of extra safety features is the Garmin Varia RCT715, which packs not just a rear light but a radar and camera into its lightweight and compact package.

Right now, REI is offering a 25% discount, making the Garmin Varia RCT715 the cheapest it's been this year. This equates to a fantastic savings of $100, reducing the Varia from the MRSP of $399.99 to $299.99.

It's worth noting that Garmin, Walmart, and Amazon have deals on the RCT715, but the Amazon deals are currently through third-party sellers.

As much as I personally rate and recommend the Garmin Varia RCT715, I haven't actually reviewed it. However, in his Cycling Weekly Garmin Varia RCT715 review, Paul Grele backed up my own opinions and gave the Varia a well-deserved 4.5 out of 5 stars, saying, " The Varia is a really impressive unit capable of filming, providing a rear light and incorporating a radar. It will link to existing Garmin products" (and other non-Garmin GPS units or a bar-mounted phone).

Paul summed up his review by adding, "The Varia like most Garmin products is well made and straightforward to setup and use. Whilst the camera film quality is excellent and the rear light is good, the radar is the standout feature. It gives the rider really accurate information to plan your movements on the road."

For me, the clincher that makes the Garmin so good is the simplicity of use, and if you're already in the Garmin eco-system, then it syncs up in seconds. I paired mine with the Garmin Edge 830, and the benefit- in fact, the joy of seeing the dots representing approaching traffic- is just fantastic. At first I still would have a look over my shoulder to confirm what the Garmin was telling me, and I've always found it to be spot-on, once you adapt to trust the tech—you really no longer have to look when making a move, but I'd still advise you do so anyway.

Another great feature is the safety of having a built-in camera with various settings, including always-on and radar-activated. It has you covered for recording close pass incidents or worse, and it can also detect an incident. Footage is recorded in sharp, clear 1080p at 30 fps, or the resolution can be reduced to 720fps to extend battery life for longer rides. Depending on the settings, you can expect the battery to last up to ten hours.

In our review, we felt the Garmin Varia RCT715 was an impressive piece of tech, only missing out on a perfect score by its whopping price tag. So, at this price with $100 off, it makes it incredibly good value for a clever piece of kit that actually gives you three items in one.

The Garmin Varia RTL515 is also discounted and provides much of the same functionality of its Varia RCT715 sibling—just without the built-in camera. If you're happy to live without that, but want the radar and light, then the RTL515 is the way to go.

However, currently at Competitive Cyclist and Backcountry, both sites are offering a significant 40% discount on the tested 36mm version and 35% off the 30mm version. This discount lowers the price from $65.95 to $39.57 for the 36mm and from $65.95 to $42.94 for the 30mm. These deals apply to the black side-walled versions; tan walls are available but with a smaller discount.

It's one of the lowest prices we've ever encountered for these tubeless-ready tyres, so if you've read the WTB Exposure TCS tyre review and are preparing your bike for summer with some fresh rubber, this deal on some of the best gravel tyres around is worth snapping up quickly.

WTB brands the Exposure TCS as a ‘Fast Adventure’ tyre, and we reviewed both the available sizes in 30mm and 36mm. Our tester was happy to report they delivered both comfort and peace of mind on poor road surfaces, especially in the 36mm. Noting no worries hitting lighter gravel paths, the TCS confirmed its all-road credentials with ease.

The 30mm version was a great all-around option. It still had plenty of supple cushioning, but it was a bit lighter and had better handling. Our reviewer said while testing it out in Spain, "The volume and sturdiness of the (30mm) tyre were great when taking some less-than-perfect service roads or cutting between the almond groves on their cracked concrete tracks."

In summing up the WTB tyres we said, "The WTB Exposure combines durability, suppleness and speed, making light work of poorly surfaced roads and smooth trails. It is ideal for riders who want a worry-free tyre for bikepacking, commuting or back lane exploring but don’t want to sacrifice too much in the way of speed or comfort." and finished by saying, "the prices are on the premium side, but longevity and ride quality should offset that in part at least."

Right now, Amazon is offering discounts of up to 30%, which makes the Insta360 X3 the cheapest it's been this year. This equates to a fantastic savings of $127, reducing the X3 from the MRSP of $426.99 to $299.99.

Several versions of the Insta360 action cameras are discounted, including the latest Insta360 X4, reduced by 15% to $424.99. However, the best savings are on the X3, which is worth grabbing now—as they'll likely go back to full price soon. It's worth noting that Best Buy and Walmart have deals on both, with Best Buy price-matching these deals if you wish to shop away from Amazon.

The Insta360 X3 is a superb all-rounder action camera with many cycling-friendly features. However, its ability to shoot 360-degree video really makes it come into its own. The X3 and its X4 sibling will capture a wider perspective than a standard action camera—meaning you never miss any of the action. The AI-powered Insta360 app will reframe the footage to any angle or view you wish, so no more post-ride disappointment when you discover your camera angle was all wrong.

The X3 measures 114mm x 46mm x 33.1mm and weighs 179g, so you can mount it to bike handlebars or any of the best road bike helmets, wear it on a chest harness, or even use it with the very clever invisible selfie stick—which is brilliant. However, we don't advise riding while holding a selfie stick.

Another feature that makes it stand out above its rival cameras and really ups the X3's usability is the large, clear touchscreen display. It measures 2.29 Inches and makes whizzing around the plethora of settings and adjustments a breeze. For on-the-fly viewing of what you've just ridden, it's brilliant, too, with crisp and bright viewing.

Elsewhere, the Insta360 X3 will also capture 72MP 360-degree still images, and with its 1800maH battery, it can last to a claimed 81 minutes in the 360-degree, 5.7K resolution mode.

The X3 has recently been superseded by the X4, which has an overall bump up in all-around quality. It's also bigger and costs way more, but Amazon does currently have a smallish 15% discount, so if your budget stretches to this, you won't regret the upgraded specs on the X4.

RCR builds included in this post-Christmas sale are the Sram-equipped Force AXS and Rival AXS models, alongside the Pro-level Shimano Ultegra and Dura-Ace spec bikes.

The RCR Pro received a lot of hyper for its affordable performance, so we had to get one in for test and that is exactly what Cycling Weekly tech writer Joe Baker did earlier in the year. It was featured as part of our race bike of the year group test and Joe had this to say about it. "The Van Rysel RCR Pro is certainly a very comfortable bike, doing a great job of evening out the plentiful bumps on my local Oxfordshire roads."

Joe was also complimentary of the RCR's handling saying, "The bike performs very well on descents. Its longer wheelbase in conjunction with the aggressive head angle, makes for a stable ride that still changes direction pretty well."

The RCR offers far more than just a value-for-money specification. It's a frame that has seen significant development time, especially in optimising its aerodynamic performance. This aerodynamic testing was completed by the team at ONERA, a world-renowned wind tunnel facility famous for its input into the Eurofighter Typhoon.

Looking to balance this aerodynamic performance and make the RCR more of an all-round racer, the Decathlon team has made the RCR light too with the Pro frameset a very respectable 1.1 kilograms. The full Replica build is the lightest in the range at 6.9 kilos, just 100 grams more than the UCI minimum weight limit.

Keeping up with the trends and standards, all the RCR builds offer up to 32mm tyre clearance and come equipped with power meters.

Decathlon’s in-house Riverside RCR gravel bike is built around a carbon frameset designed to blend stiffness with compliance. It’s a combination that you see on some of the best gravel bikes, making them ideally suited to a variety of trails as well as for longer days in the saddle.

With a maximum tyre clearance of 42mm, this is a bike that's designed for speed rather than off-grid bikepacking, making it a good choice if you're planning on entering any gravel races or events in the future. It also likely means that the bike should adapt well to road use when needed.

Both models rely on SRAM’s well-proven AXS wireless shifting. A full electronic 12-speed groupset at these prices is hard to come by, which only adds to the appeal of these deals. Here it's the gravel-centric XPLR versions, which use a single chainring alongside a wide 10-44t cassette, delivering plenty of range.

Similarly, both models offer an impressive list of components from brands that include Reynolds, Fizik and Hutchinson.

It's worth delving into the details a little more here, especially when it comes to the wheelsets.

Both models are set up tubeless, but you'll need to add one of the best sealants to complete the job. The carbon Reynolds hoops on the Force-equipped model are 40mm deep and have an internal rim measurement of 23mm. This makes them ideally suited to running wide gravel tyres, like the 40mm Hutchinson Touareg fitted to both bikes.

The Rival bike comes equipped with Fulcrum Rapid Red 900s, which again have a wide internal rim width designed around wide, tubeless tyres that run at low pressures - it's here where gravel bikes get much of their comfort and grip from.

Other noteworthy components are the flared gravel bars and the Fizik Argo Terra saddle, both designed specifically for the trails.

A similar offer is available in the US with Amazon Coupons, reducing the price by $100 from $399 to $299. It may be too late for Christmas delivery in the US, but why not treat yourself, making it your New Year's resolution to capture more adventures in 2025?

When Cycling Weekly US Editor Rook put the HOVERAir through its paces earlier this year she had this to say: "If you're looking for new ways to capture your cycling content and have an interest in photography or videography, the HoverAir X1 is a highly user-friendly device with a compact, lightweight design that's really fun to play with."

The HOVERAir X1 is absolutely tiny, standing just 13cm tall and weighing only 125 grams, making it perfect for slipping into a jersey pocket. The X1 is kept in the air by four equally tiny propellers housed within its folding frame for protection. With a built-in gimbal-mounted camera the X1 is capable of capturing high-quality HDR Video of 2.7K at 30fps.

Operating the HOVERAir couldn't be easier. Just select the appropriate flight pattern and, within three seconds, this little drone will take off from the palm of your hand.

The X1 has seven flight modes, five for video and two for photography including follow, birds-eye view, side track and orbit. Dolly track front view mode keeps the moving rider centred in the frame. Impressive.

With a max speed of 13mph/20kph the X1 may not be the fastest drone out there, but it is the perfect tool for capturing incredible scenery on epic climbs or for showing off the technicality of the terrain you tackled on your latest adventure.

This discount caught my eye as the Protone helmet quite literally saved my life during a high-speed crash. So in my opinion, it's one of the best bike helmets for road cyclists you can get.

I have nothing but praise for the Kask Protone helmet and therefore, can't recommend it enough for anyone looking for a road or gravel helmet this Christmas.

I've tested many helmets over the years including the more expensive Kask Elemento and thankfully you rarely need to actually crash-test them. As for the Kask Protone though, I unfortunately put it through the ultimate test. While out riding with friends, I clipped the rider's wheel in front and hit the road at somewhere north of 35 kph. The Protone soaked up the full force, and the result was minor injuries for me, with the unfortunate helmet paying the ultimate price.

The destroyed Protone now hangs in my garage as a reminder, with Kask having kindly replaced the helmet like for like. It's not the Kask official policy, but they do offer a percentage crash discount which is always handy, and you can always ask the question on a replacement too.

It might be a bit of a stretch to think of these as a Christmas gift, but if you’re feeling especially generous or considering treating yourself to one of the best gravel bikes for a while. Then these deals on the Pearson On&Off electric gravel bikes are worth checking out.

Pearson On&Off Electric Gravel bike deals

The big news on these gravel bikes is the discount. There's £2,000 off the GRX 820 model and £1,500 off the GRX 610 – which means you're getting a superbly specced gravel bike at a very generously discounted cost.

Dive deeper and the On&Off becomes even more appealing and is built around a high-performance motor and a robust lightweight carbon frame. The complete bike weighs in at a respectable 13kg on the GRX 820 and 13.3kg on the 610 model. Rival brand models like Cairn Cycles E-Adventure weigh in at 14.3kg or the Canyon Grizl: ON at 15.5kg.

Keeping the weight down is the Mahle X20 motor placed inside the rear hub of the On&Off. It puts out a powerful 55Nm of torque, powered by a 350Wh battery hidden in the downtube. This can be increased using the 250Wh Range Extender which comes as standard and gives a claimed range of 160km on a single charge.

The impressive spec includes Shimano's reliable gravel GRX groupsets – either the 1x GRX 820 or 1x GRX 610 both with 12spd gearing. The On&Off rolls on either carbon or alloy wheels depending on the model and wrapped in Pirelli Cinturato Gravel tyres.

Why buy an electric gravel bike?

An electric gravel bike is an excellent choice for those looking to embrace cycling and gravel riding, giving you a welcome boost on climbs, allowing you to explore further afield or just as a fantastic commuter bike.

Gravel is the fastest-growing genre in cycling, and any gravel bike is ideal as a winter riding steed designed for both paved roads and hitting the trails. Right now, at Amazon, there's an incredible discount of up to 47%, which means you can grab the DJI Osmo 4 for just $209 – $90 off its list price of $299. For UK shoppers the DJI Osmo is currently £199 – a massive £180 off the RRP of £379.

It may not be the best-in-class action camera – the GoPro Hero13 Black has that sewn up, but the DJI Osmo Action 4 has plenty going for it. At this price, it's a must-buy if you're looking for a feature-packed action camera.

If an action camera wasn't on your Amazon Cyber Monday shopping list, then our Christmas Gift Guide 2024 has some great options for gifting the cyclist in your life something they'll really love.

The DJI Osmo 4 shares most of the same performance features as its more expensive rivals with 4K/120fps HDR footage, and the DJI HorizonSteady software that keeps things smooth and ultra-level for stunning video. You can also shoot still images in either JPEG or RAW, switch between a wide or standard field of view, control shutter speed and ISO, and adjust white balance.

Battery life is also good with up to 150 minutes of non-stop filming – the GoPro Hero13 gives you the same but costs more. Class matching features also include three stabilization modes to provide steady footage and crystal-clear clarity. The DJI Osmo Action 4 comes with a battery and Quick-Release Adapter Mount.

Unsurprisingly this high-security lock doesn’t come cheap; any lock that achieves Sold Secure’s highest Diamond rating typically comes with a three-digit price tag. But for Cyber Monday Litelok has reduced the cost of the X1 by $15, plus it's also giving you a Tactical Mount to carry the lock for free. With a retail cost of $24.99 that makes for a solid $40 saving.

The deal is also offered in the UK. Here you’re saving £10 plus a free mount priced £19.99. Again, it's a reasonable saving on a quality product. I've also added a couple of other options too, should the X1 not be the right lock for you.

It looks like these deals will only be around for the remainder of the day, so it's worth acting now if you're shopping for a good-quality lock.

While the savings here are not the greatest, there's a lot to be said for choosing a Cyber Monday deal because these locks are good quality and they are products you will definitely find a use for. It’s taken a while but I’ve found a decent deal on both, with the Bolt bundle, which includes the computer plus speed, cadence and heart rate sensors, reduced by almost £80 in the UK, while in the US, the Bolt is reduced by more than 25%.

With Cyber Monday drawing to a close in the UK, it's hard to know just how long these deals will stick around for. My advice is to act now if you've been considering either Wahoo computer.

So why do I like the Bolt V2 so much? For me it's the ideal blend of looks and functionality.

The 2.2" screen allows it to be pretty refined in its appearance, which is ideal if you don't want the look of having a large smartphone protruding from your handlebars. Vitally though, it's still easy enough to navigate using the Bolt, with the maps clear and easy to follow.

That said if you're looking for a head unit for multi-day adventures then the larger Roam V2, with its 2.7" screen, might be a better bet - and I've found a great deal on that computer too.

Despite this being the last official day, the good news is that there are still a ton of great buys to be had, with Amazon unsurprisingly being one of the best places to go to.

The environmentally detrimental fabrics are already outlawed in some USA states, with a European Union ban expected to be adopted. In response, Castelli has abandoned the Gore-Tex material featured in the Gabba, reinventing the garment as the 'Castelli R', a newer, faster jacket that's more packable.

Said to be "functionally waterproof", we've yet to fully review the new incarnation of the icon. However, it's even more skintight, and somewhat more shiny than previous versions. The Gabba RoS is now out of production, so if you still love the breathable, water-resistant nature of this piece of kit, these Cyber Monday deals seem to signal the perfect time to invest.

The new Gabba R has a lot going for it, with Castelli claiming it's more aerodynamic and more protective than ever before. However, it looks very different, and the skin tight silvery material might not be for everyone.

As a long-time fan of the performance offered by the Castelli Gabba RoS, it's a garment I know performs well, in the rain, and when the downpour passes. Unfortunately, the PFAS containing fabrics which made it so great simply aren't good for our planet, and the industry has done what it needs to do in moving away from these materials. For now, hangovers from the past still exist, and arguably they're better off in your wardrobe than in landfill.

As someone who has spent the last few days handpicking some of best offers this Cyber Monday on smartwatches, smart trainers and much more, I now firmly have my own shopping baskets full to the brim.

I've been tracking its price since Amazon Prime day. Even on Black Friday, it was still a great buy, but now there's an even better 32% saving on the excellent unit.

I've been seeing a lot of price movements this weekend, and deals like this are quickly snapped up. We hailed it as a superb offer when there was a 27% discount, so this makes it even better, and will probably sell out.

Here at Cycling Weekly, we've always been big fans of the small but perfectly formed Garmin Edge 530 GPS bike computer, finding it intuitive to use and capable of capturing all the riding metrics we could ever need.

It may be celebrating its half-decade this year, which makes it one of the brand's older GPS Computers, but we still find it our go-to recommendation in terms of value for money.

It does miss out on the touchscreen technology that the top-end units gain, but we've often found that option challenging to function when wearing gloves, or heavy rain.

With the button press operating system of the Edge 530, it makes it incredibly user friendly.

Summarising why it's such a go-to for many riders, CW Tech Writer Joe Baker found it has "capabilities for GPS navigation, ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity, and various metrics for analysing climbs and even trail riding inside the Garmin Edge 530, all housed inside an IPX7 body with a 2.6" colour screen".

However, the build, which I will outline below and comes in at under $2900, does include a higher specification than the stock Cervélo Áspero and features many of Cycling Weekly's top recommended components. This considered it does start to add up to much more than $300.

The Stock 2024 Áspero GRX 610 is $3200 at Competitive Cyclist if you are interested.

The Cervélo Áspero is considered by many as a gravel race bike. It features a 71-degree head angle and 73-degree seat angle which does hint at this. However, reach and stack are in line with the rest of the market and makes it no 'racier' than its competitors. For most, it is likely the very short 420mm chainstays which mean it's thought of as the racer's choice.

With room to squeeze in a 42mm tyre and up to 49mm in 650b, it is one of the few dual-wheel size compatibility bikes available.

It's been some time since we tested the Cervélo Áspero but it has stood the test of time and still features as one of our best gravel bikes.

However, that's how comfy the Fizik Vento Infinito Knit Carbon 2 shoes are, and now they have almost £200 off this Cyber Monday at Sigma Sports. Perhaps, it's time to reconsider them as slippers.

Even if you don't buy into my dreams of wearing carbon cycling shoes as casual wear, finding this deal has reminded me of how good these cycling shoes are.

I've owned the shoes ever since, and they've never let me down, although I often swap them out for a more garish yellow pair with laces, the less said about them the better. While the knitted upper is designed for breathability and comfort, I've never found it a problem wearing them year-round in the UK.

I rode up the Großglockner in them, possibly my crowning cycling achievement. They've been through some serious testing over the years and have always come up trumps. The Fiziks look fancier than other run-of-the-mill shoes that my friends wear too, which is a bonus.

The carbon R2 sole is the stiffest which Fizik offers, and I cannot stress how inflexible it is, making it perfect for riding on the road, powering up climbs or putting those watts in on the flat. It should also be said, that they're really light too, weighing in at about 225g per shoe. They're an all-rounder and reasonably stylish too. The BOA dials allow the shoes to be tightened to perfection as well.

The shoes are also available in a wide fit, which doesn't have quite as much of a discount, but still have 48% off. There is also a non-knitted version, the Fizik Vento Infinito Carbon 2, which features a Microtex upper, which is also 48% off at Sigma Sports in the UK.

There aren't quite as big savings in the US, but you can still get 21% off the shoes on Amazon.
